Supporting More Women for Local Election in Leitrim

Women for Election is delighted to be partnering with Leitrim County Council to bring a programme of comprehensive and engaging training and events to Leitrim to encourage and support more women to get involved in politics.

Leitrim ranks as one of the lowest county in Ireland for female representation at Local Government level, with just three female Councillors out of 18.

We want to change this

It’s time for Women from Leitrim to count themselves in and take their seat at the table.

We know that women are leading community groups and in leadership roles across the community, and now is the time to see that converted into the Council Chamber at a representative level. In the next Local Elections in 2024, just how amazing would it be to see that 50% of the candidates that are running are women? To have a Council Chamber that truly reflects the diversity of the County?

The Supporting More Women in Leitrim programme

Supporting More Women for Local Election in Leitrim is a comprehensive training and awareness programme that will aim to engage, encourage and inspire women in all their diversity from across the county to consider getting involved in politics.

We have something for everybody in this programme, and the whole community has a role to play in getting more women involved in politics in Carlow. Whether it’s encouraging a woman to consider running, supporting a woman to run, or running yourself, these programmes have been designed by Women for Election to support that journey, and are delivered by trainers with decades of experience in Irish politics and leadership.

If you are just starting to think about politics, or are a sitting Councillor looking to rerun, these programmes will help you along the way.

11th Nov 11am-2pm Campaign Readiness and Rollout

This Canvassing Clinic covers preparing for and organising canvassing, capturing and using canvassing data, picking up and following up on issues and queries, how to sustain yourself – it’s a marathon, not a sprint!

18th Nov 11am-2pm Finding Your ‘WHY’ and Perfecting Your Message

Why are you running for election? Why should I vote for you? What will you do for this community? This module gives invaluable advice on how to answer these questions and more. This practical workshop helps you to fine-tune your messaging, and prepares you to be authentic and relevant in interviews, at meetings, and on the doorsteps as you clearly and confidently let people know why it is that they should give you their No.1
