Well, we did it! We won. And we can hardly believe it. We know just how important getting more women elected is; and how much it means to everyone we’ve met and worked with over the past couple of years, but what we didn’t know was whether we could convince Social Entrepreneurs Ireland that this was the issue worth investing €200,000 in over the next two years. But we did convince them! And from today Women for Election’s plans become reality. Starting with this website, we are out to engage with women up, down and across Ireland and bring them with us on this journey to make our politics equal, once and for all.

We feel humbled by the award. Our fellow finalists: Grow it yourself, Fighting Words, GraceApp, Green Sod Land Trust, Pieta House, MyMind and Camara Ireland; each run incredibly important organisations, that change people’s lives and enrich our country every single day. We have learned from them and grown with them over the past three months, and we will continue to. The unique thing about the SEI process is the bond it builds between finalists, and that will continue into the future. The women – Joan, Sheila, Melissa and Lisa – are all prime targets for our programme; they are already leaders in their communities and could add so much to our politics. Watch this space!

Great conversation through @women4election with @SenLynnRuane. I gained a lot. Not just information, but also a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by women. #Time4Change https://twitter.com/women4election/status/1265948619238191110
