More Women – Changing the Face of Politics

Women’s experience of running for election in Ireland.

In 2020 we commissioned Dr Fiona Buckley and Dr Lisa Keenan to conduct qualitative research into the lived experiences of women who had run for election.

Go for it and run, is the main message from the women who were interviewed for this study. Rarely will someone regret running for political office, they advise. However, the 4 r’s of recruitment, resources, resistance and resilience summarise the experiences of the women who were interviewed.

We are actively advocating and building collaborations with key stakeholders to implement change initiatives which are informed by the recommendations from this research.
