Interested in politics? Thinking about taking the next step? Join us on one of our Inspire training days!

Women for Election’s INSPIRE programme is a one-day training event that aims to introduce women, who are interested in a career in politics, to the realities of political life in Ireland.

On this intensive one-day programme participants work with national experts to develop skills in campaigns, confidence and communications. Current and former female politicians will share their personal stories, real life experiences and how they overcame challenges faced. Each participant will be supported to take the next step on her political journey and become part of changing the face of politics in Ireland.

Throughout the day we focus on the three Cs:
  • campaigns
  • communications
  • confidence

Experienced experts will demystify politics and show you how ‘getting in’ is something you can accomplish. You will leave the event with the tools and direction to take your next step on your political journey.

We tackle the confidence barrier and how it affects women in political life. We connect participants with experienced female politicians to learn from their individual experiences in building confidence and resilience. We hear from female elected representatives, who will share they challenges they have faced and, most importantly, how they overcame them.

We explain how campaigns work, outline the different types and build awareness of different skills and tools required (e.g. winning at party selection level vs. winning at an election).

We tell participants how to access the media and what media is appropriate for their campaign. Our expert will provide an introduction to the basic media tools candidates will need for their campaign(press release, key messages for an interview, sound-bite etc), as well as sharing the basic rules for message development and interview preparation.

Also, remember the INSPIRE programme is open to any women with an interest in politics or public life. It is specifically targeted at women who have an interest in becoming more politically involved – as a campaigner, candidate or campaign manager – and who may consider putting themselves forward for election in the future. We also serve women with leadership potential outside of politics – in business, trade unions, or the community and voluntary sector – that seek to influence politics or may consider politics as a future avenue in their career.

Thanks to the generosity of our members and supporters we are able to offer the full day training session at a subsidised rate:

Tickets are €199 including lunch.

We can offer a number of  free places on each Inspire programme, to women who may not otherwise be able to access the training. The sponsored places on our programme are possible thanks to the Department of Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.

In training women to run for election, we want to help them feel empowered and confident about their ability to be a force for change. Eligible applicants must be 18 years of age and normally resident in Ireland.
